Zygomatic Implant
Removable dentures are a thing of the past and can be replaced, achieving extraordinary functional and aesthetic results, through zygomatic implants. The technique developed in Sweden allows a person to use a fixed denture without bone grafting. The method is simple, safe, and poses no risk to the patient. However, it requires practice and should only be performed by an experienced professional.
The technique prevents the patient from undergoing grafting, which occurs when bone loss caused by prolonged denture use exerts excessive force on the bone, leading to significant bone resorption. In zygomatic implants, titanium pins are anchored and fixed to the zygomatic bone or nearby bones. Two or three days after the pins are implanted, the patient can use a new temporary removable prosthesis or a new fixed prosthesis over the implants. It is important to clarify that the method does not replace conventional implants, and can even be combined with them in the upper jaw.
Difficult oral rehabilitation cases have been resolved with zygomatic implants, yielding excellent functional and aesthetic results. The prosthesis remains firmly in place and cannot move. The only requirement for the treatment's longevity is that the patient adheres to hygiene standards and the dentist's instructions.
Dr. Marcelo Goldoni and his team, along with Dr. Vanderlin Branco Camargo, perform this procedure in a hospital setting in the city of Porto Alegre.
